45Rのものづくり - Manufacturing stories

Logo Print Tee Classics

Our logo print T-shirts, featuring the iconic "45rpm" logo on the chest, have remained a cherished item that we have been creating for decades. The playful logo, crafted using traditional techniques, has also contributed to the growing 45R unique style.

Bandanas

T-shirts, jeans, bandanas: the 45R trinity. As passionate as we are about T-shirts and jeans, we’re no less devoted to the humble bandana. A bandana has endless uses. You can wear it in your hair, tie it around your neck, use it as a handkerchief or belt, even wrap it around your lunchbox. This everyday versatility, and the way they grow more supple with age, makes bandanas quite similar to Japanese tenugui cloths.

T-Shirts

“Enrich people’s daily living by offering ‘feel-good’ clothes”: this is 45R’s monozukuri (manufacturing) philosophy. After decades of pursuing this ideal, we’re more committed to it than ever. Our approach to T-shirts has deepened in the same way. We take inspiration from vintage T-shirts, but constantly refine and update our designs to stay true to the uniquely 45R monozukuri process.

Jeans

Jeans

In 1991, jeans were made in the USA or by major manufacturers. For a young brand like ours to create jeans from scratch, starting from the choice of cotton, was completely unthinkable. But jeans are a staple for 45R—an everyday essential, the foundation of style. We were determined to master the art of making them.

Kageiro Nando

We like the shadows cast by people. The dappled patterns of light through the trees. Not crisp black shadows, but gray ones. Shadows that reflect the contours of the light and gradations of darkness. After working with Indigo for twenty years, we decided to call our 34th Indigo hue “Kageiro Nando” – “Shadow Nando.” It’s a deep, shadowy Indigo, reminiscent of both natural Ai indigo and black.

World Cotton T-Shirts

“Feel-good” clothes to enrich your daily life. A simple idea that we approach with a simple process. We select the very finest raw materials, scrutinize the fabric and listen to what it has to say, and then present it to you in the best possible form. That’s our monozukuri philosophy in a nutshell.

Hayama Flagship Store

At long last, our roadside store by the sea is complete. Pay 100 yen at the Zuyo-Shindo tollgate, drive through the tunnel, take a left at the Nagisabashi intersection with the Sma-R sign, and there they are: a gleaming Airstream trailer and a beachside apparel store.

Hayama monogatari

The ocean has inspired our creative process for many years now. In September 2022, we will open a new flagship store in Hayama, a coastal city south of Tokyo. Look for our Hayama Monogatari (“Hayama Story”) line in April 2022, featuring Hayama-related characters along with T-shirts, fleeces, and other garments designed to deepen in character with every wash, as if worn with love in the brisk sea breeze.
